Well...I realized that we'd missed the third annual 'shove your kid in a pumpkin day' on the 15th, so...when you woke up still sick this morning, I made the executive decision to keep you in your pjs, and take you to Maple Acres Farm to get your annual pumpkin and tractor pictures and a pumpkin big enough to fit you in if they had it. You were so excited with the tractor this year. Not like this was surprising at all, but you kept pulling me around the whole farm from tractor to tractor. Cutie pie... You were also so excited to see all of the pumpkins! Our pictures were easily taken and pumpkins were easily picked. Kind of. Our big pumpkin wasn't looking like it'd be an easy squeeze for you, and the people in line at the farm stand were giving me a bit of pumpkin envy...but...away we went with some flowers for Steph (we've known her 2 months now), some flowers to make Elmo's head (you'll see in a few days), and a ton of baby pumpkins. Look at the comparison photos! AHHH!! You're getting SO BIG!!
I couldn't stop doing the "math" of getting you into the pumpkin that we'd bought while we were driving home, and so...since it was on the way...I stopped to see if Holod's (where we get our plants) had any that were bigger. Sure enough! They had a GIANT pumpkin AND it looked like it was tye-died!...which just made the whole thing that much more exciting. So. All loaded up, we headed home. You were asleep. I could see the Jeep heading towards us as we came to a stop, and I had just enough time to think to myself: "hmm. He seems to be speeding up not slowing down" before he hit us. Terrifying. We're so lucky, Man. I actually have a pretty hard time looking at the pictures at this point. Particularly seeing your car seat... Sigh.
Also we were pretty lucky that you were asleep so you're not afraid to be in the car!
Once everyone was out of the car, and the police came, and the ambulance came...we were trying to figure out how we know we'd know that you were OK since you don't talk...I decided that the best way to tell if a Kai was "acting normally" was to wait for a truck or bus to come down the street and see if you screamed about it. Sure enough! "OH IT'S A BUS!! A BUS A BUS!!!" That wasn't a good enough assessment for the medic though, so we went to the hospital anyway. I got x-rays, and you got glass taken out of your hair, and outside of a truly minuscule cut on your wrist, we were unscathed. Even Monkey got checked out... Aiden didn't actually, but he was at the SPCA and I'm sure they were looking after him too. Grandmapa went to collect our things from the car, and to pick up and take home Aiden, Grandmom stayed with us until we were discharged and brought us to her house with Steph, who got to the hospital just in time...and we waited and rested and played until Julia and Lauren and Dania came and we spent the rest of the evening with them. Everyone but Lauren seemed to evade the camera...but it's ok. I'm so happy that we're all there and safe and quirkily loving one another like we do. I look forward to it happening with Uncle Stu around too!
God, am I ever thankful...
